User Experience Design, BDes (Honours)
The Honours Bachelor of Design degree in User Experience Design (UXD) is a four year program in which students will earn two credentials: an Honours Bachelor of Design from Laurier and a Graduate Certificate from Conestoga College in Interactive Media Management – User Experience.
Through the UXD program, students will progressively work towards mastery of all aspects of user-centred design, including undertaking needs assessments, creating design solutions, and evaluating design outcomes. This program combines design education with technical instruction and hands-on training to configure interactive design strategies using existing and emerging technologies. This will prepare students to act as user experience design practitioners or consultants in website and application development, as well as immersive, virtual, and mobile environments. The Graduate Certificate will facilitate the development of strong technical knowledge to complement the theoretical and critical skills developed through a liberal arts university education.
With a blend of courses in design and liberal arts, graduates of this program will have the necessary creative and critical skills to be well-rounded contributors to the experience design process, and will be well-positioned to enter a growing job market with a professionalized, high demand degree. Vertical integration and job readiness will be ensured through the students’ use of an electronic portfolio throughout their four years of study; through optional internship and co-op opportunities; and through a capstone project in their final year.
