Master of Social Work, MSW

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program has been developed in a manner that aligns with the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) accreditation standards and has two options: 1) Field Placement Option; and 2) Thesis Option. CASWE has completed a review of this program and provided Pre-Accreditation Status. The program provides the opportunity for reflexive exercise reflected in anti-oppressive research, theory, and practice with diverse marginalized communities within the seven grandfather teachings. This program will be in line with Algoma University’s mission and vision on cross-cultural learning and teaching, equity, diversity, and inclusion mandate. This program will provide graduate students with opportunities for developing and expanding their practice, theory, and research skills and knowledge in social work in ways that are centered on community capacity building and social transformation. This program aligns itself with the core mission and vision of the School of Social Work which is grounded on cross-cultural, anti-oppression, and anti-racism. Graduates of Algoma University’s Masters of Social Work program will be positioned to continue onto a Ph.D. in Social Work or enter the work field.
