Civil Engineering, BEng

The proposed Civil Engineering program at the University of Guelph will prepare graduates to provide innovative, adaptive and resilient infrastructure systems to support our collective future, and to address challenges such as aging infrastructure, social inequality, and climate change. With both a five-year co-op stream and a four-year regular stream, students would earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Students will benefit from an interdisciplinary and experiential approach to learning that includes four capstone design courses at the end of each academic year. A distinctive feature of the program is its focus on equipping students with the knowledge and skills to optimize infrastructure systems to include resilience for future changes, incorporate new green materials and lifecycle principles, be designed for future disassembly and resource recovery, and ensure that the needs of all members of society are met through collaborative design. Graduates will be equipped to work in various industries, including civil and environmental engineering, urban development, construction, and the public sector, supporting the need for graduates with skills in environmental stewardship, social equity, and advanced technologies. The curriculum offers flexibility through optional Areas of Emphasis in Urban Water Infrastructure and Smart Systems, allowing students to tailor their education to their career goals.
