The BFA Experimental Animation asks students to develop a personal artistic vision,

tell their own stories and push the boundaries of animation as a contemporary art form.

Mixing traditional and digital media, this studio art program encourages a breadth of

approaches while allowing students to acquire focused knowledge of one or more

animation techniques: 2D, 3D, stop-motion, digital compositing and augmented/virtual

reality. Furthermore, building upon OCAD University’s depth in art, design and liberal

arts, elective courses allow students the flexibility to explore interests in any medium or

area. Promoting non-traditional, unconventional and hybrid approaches to animation,

the four-year, full-time BFA Experimental Animation requires students to innovate

critically with technology, form and concept. Building rigorous writing and thinking skills,

students reflect on the meaning behind their work in the context of historical and

contemporary issues around animation. After having developed their technical and

conceptual abilities, graduates from the BFA Experimental Animation will be

prepared for careers as independent artists and professional animators.
