Medical Sciences, GDip (Type 1) and GDip (Type 3)

The Graduate Diploma in Medical Sciences is a course-based program designed to enhance students’ research and clinical skills to align with the requirements of the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS) process and to promote research and scholarship activities in future physicians. Applicants must hold an MD to be considered for admission to the program.

The objectives of the Graduate Diploma in Medical Sciences are:

  1. To enhance students’ clinical skills in the context of the Canadian healthcare system;
  2. To engage students to explore current issues in medical sciences;
  3. To foster the development of students’ professional identities, and achieve their future career objectives as clinician scientists and medical science professionals.

Students may start either in July or January, and complete the program within 6 months. Students in the Graduate Diploma program may elect to apply for the Professional Master of Medical Sciences, and they may also ladder into other MSc programs in Queen’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Graduate Diploma in Medical Sciences requires, at minimum, the completion of 12 credit units, including a Research Methodology course (MSCI 800, 3 credit units), one elective graduate course (3 credit units) chosen from the approved list, and a clinical skills training course (MSCI 801, 6 credit units).
