Master of Professional Kinesiology, MPK

The Master of Professional Kinesiology (MPK) will train students as professional kinesiologisists with an advanced understanding of the latest evidenced-based research to improve function, health and wellness in all populations. The MPK program builds on the strengths of the Department of Kinesiology and the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Brock University, and is a full time, one-year (3 terms) program encompassing innovative lecture and lab-based coursework, professional development courses, and a unique opportunity for internship placements with diverse populations across the lifespan. The MPK courses complement the core competencies outlined by the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and include: three required courses (1 in professional development and 2 advanced assessment courses), three required clinical internship courses, and four electives. The required course work provides students with advanced knowledge of human movement and foster professionalism, communication and problem solving skills. The internship placements require students to work directly with unique populations such as healthy individuals, athletes, and various patient populations. Furthermore, the applied character of many of these courses is another distinguishing factor that provide students with an understanding of the rehabilitation and management processes involved in maintaining or enhancing movement and performance across a wide spectrum of target populations. Graduates of the MPK program will be prepared for an evidence-based, clinically oriented career in a variety of healthcare organizations as well as positioned to take on leadership roles in the health sector.
