Professional Master of Education, PME
The Professional Master of Education Degree (PME) is a part-time, course based graduate program that is part of the Faculty of Education’s laddered-credential, online program. Students may apply for direct entry into the PME or after completion of the Graduate Diploma in Professional Inquiry [GDPI]. Successful graduates of the GDPI may apply credits earned toward the completion of the PME. The PME is designed to provide students with the ability to integrate new knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning into professional practice. Students will have five concentrations to choose from: Aboriginal Education, Assessment and Evaluation, Classroom Specialist, Education Abroad, and Literacy Education. Each five-course concentration focuses on developing expertise and leadership through field-based, professional inquiry aimed at improving teaching and learning. The PME program will attract students who wish to complete a graduate degree without having to leave their work environments. The online delivery format will enable students to engage in both individual and collaborative learning to develop:deeper knowledge about the research literature in their area of interest; stronger connections between their teaching and research; greater ability to lead in their schools; and an understanding of change implementation based on data available in their professional contexts.
