Social Work, BSW

The BSW program is a course of study that incorporates social work curriculum with humanities, arts and social sciences co-curricula. The humanities, arts and social sciences courses provide essential foundations for student learning opportunities fostering concept and skill development. The social work courses provide knowledge and skill development for professional practice in social work. The four-year program is for students matriculating from high school, while the advanced standing program allows college graduates of accredited human service worker programs to begin studies near the beginning of the third year of the program.

The BSW program offers a unique focus on Aboriginal issues and includes an examination of the cultural exchanges between Canada’s colonial processes and First Nations people. Laurier Brantford is located adjacent to Six Nations and the New Credit Reserve, placing the program in an ideal location for establishing connections for opportunities to learn about the culture and customs of First Nations people. Graduates of the program will be eligible for membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and prepared for practice in a variety of fields, including child welfare, mental health, family and children’s services, Aboriginal services, social policy and planning, and community development.
